Many marketers will have seen a technical SEO checklist in their time. Any time a site migration is approaching or a technical audit is scheduled, a checklist tends to appear. The reputation, authority, and credibility of a website will be judged by the search engines based on the type of backlinks the site has. Everyone likes to see a nicely designed website, but given a choice between a great looking website with little/poor content and a poor looking website with great content, people prefer the latter. They aren’t searching online to look at pretty websites. They’re searching online for a specific reason and if you meet their needs then there’s a good chance that they’ll make a purchase from you, either straight away or in the future. Community hijacking involves finding online communities that are made up of your target market, or people that can reach your target market so that you can build a relationship with them and get them to promote your content/brand/product(s).

For example, large news websites don’t generally link to an untrusted source, nor do top quality industry blogs or university or .edu websites. A site that hasn’t done its keyword research is like a car driving in the dark down between two points. Keyword research is a constant and has been and still is a cornerstone of SEO. Do it before you do anything else! It’s totally understandable that Google takes user behavior into account in their assessment of which result to rank highest.
